In the first chapter of John's Gospel, we see Nathanael and Philip coming to Jesus. As they approach, Jesus calls out to Nathanael, and Nathanael is astounded by Jesus's ability to know him without having ever met him before. From this alone, Nathanael is convinced that this man, Jesus of Nazareth, must be the Son of God, the King of Israel. What we come to see is that coming face to face with Jesus will change a person. When we come face to face with Jesus, we will come to see and realize things that we didn't know or understand before. This lesson will be the first of many that consider this idea, and we will begin by looking at what happened to Nicodemus when he came to Jesus in John 3:1-21.
