No one would claim that the Pharisees were fans of Jesus, but the reality is that the Pharisees were not fans of many people outside of themselves. This is why we find them reacting so poorly when they find Jesus gathered in the house of Matthew the tax collector sharing a meal with other tax collectors and sinners. They strongly scoff at what Jesus is doing, but our Lord responds with equal conviction as He states that these were exactly the type of people He had been sent to save. This lesson looks at Jesus as the great Physician, the sick sinners, and the role that the church plays in helping those who are sick, broken, and hurting find healing in Jesus.
