A New Commandment (John 13:34,35)

In John 13:34,35, Jesus lays down what He calls a "new" commandment. However, this commandment really doesn't seem all that new because it is a command for them to love one another. Is this truly a new commandment? Were the people of God not required to love other up until this point? If love was required, then what exactly was Jesus meaning when He said this was a "new" commandment? This lesson seeks to answer these questions, so that we might be able to embrace this new commandment of Jesus Christ.
